Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) finished the second race of the sixth round of the Supersport class World Championship in Barcelona, Spain on P10.
Soomer, who started from the ninth position, dropped to twelfth in the first round, but soon fought back to P9 and then dropped another position. For the rest of the race, Soomer held P10, on which position he crossed the finish line. The race was won by the Italian Andrea Locatelli (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team), who also secured this year’s Supersport World Championship title.
This weekend, Soomer had his first experience on the Circuit de Catalunya. “It's much easier if you can test on a new track before the race,” he admitted. “Today I did my best and this set-up, me and the bike, were not able to do more. But the whole weekend felt like we were one step behind the competition.”
The seventh World SSP round will take place on 3-4 October on a much more familiar circuit to Soomer, in Magny-Cours, France.
Soomer holds the 10th position at the World Championships with 59 points.
