Soomer had an excellent FP in rain

“I added one achievement to my career today, leading the World Championship Free Practice,” said Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) who had the 6th time in the Free Practices of the seventh round of the Supersport World Championship in Magny-Cours, France today.

The Magny-Cours circuit, which is already familiar to Soomer, is cold and rainy today: the temperature was only 8.5 degrees and it has been pouring all day. At the end of FP1 in the morning, Soomer rode the fastest lap time 1.57,444, in FP2 he was sixth, and he was also sixth in the two FPs combined Soomer. The fastest was the Brit and “wet track champion” Kyle Smith (GMT94 Yamaha), to whom Soomer lost 1.433 seconds.

"The weather is bad, but today was a good day — the bike is handy and the feeling is nice," said Soomer. "We didn't make any changes to the bike, we just tried places on the track where I could be faster. Riding on the wet track has never been my strength, in that sense, the first practice was a surprise.” In FP2, which was a little drier, he also didn't manage to get a really fast lap. It will also rain tomorrow, so there is no hope of improving conditions.

The qualification of the World SSP takes place on Saturday at 12:40 Estonian time, the first race at 16:15, the second race is on Sunday at 13:30.

Before the seventh round, Soomer holds the 10th position at the World Championships with 59 points.
