Soomer finished on P19 today

“I get the feeling that someone is holding their hand in front of a good result,” said Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) who finished on P19 today in the first race of the fifth round of the Supersport World Championship in Aragon, Spain today.

In the Superpole Qualification Soomer took the seventh time, being 1.268 seconds slower than Andrea Locatelli (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) who took the pole position. "The seventh starting position was not tragic, I made a small riding error on both fast laps," commented Soomer.

The start of the race was successful, but then something completely unexpected happened - at the end of the first lap, the fuel tank cap flew off from the bike, fuel spilled out and Soomer was forced to drive to the pits and replace the cap with a new one. When he rejoined the race, he was more than a minute behind the leaders, but rode till the finish and was 19th at the finish. "I rode to the end to test the settings and gather information for tomorrow. The lap time was not bad, but if you lose so much at the beginning, it is not possible to rise very high.”

Locatelli took his eighth consecutive win today.

Race 2 is on Sunday at 13:30 (Estonian time).
