Hannes Soomer: “No grip at all during the whole race”

Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) took P9 in the first race of the third round of the Supersport World Championship in Portimao, Portugal today.

The third Free Practice in the morning went well for Soomer, he got the 5th time. The Superpole Qualification also went relatively well and as a result, he was in the P7 of the starting grid for today's first race.

"We didn't change anything on the bike, yet the grip of the front end completely disappeared right at the start of the race," said Soomer. "There were at least ten moments during the race where I could have been brought back on the cart. I had to start braking 20 meters earlier and still couldn't get to a stop. A seriously unpleasant race. ”

As Sandro Cortes crashed in the last lap of the WSBK race before the WSSP race and the rider had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter, the WSSP race was postponed. The start was given with a quick start procedure, ie without tire warmers on the starting grid. Soomer only assumes that this and the increase in air and track temperatures compared to the morning may have had an effect. "In any case, it has to be fixed for tomorrow," he said.

Andrea Locatelli (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) won the race for the fourth time in a row. Soomer was fighting a battle of the titans for P8 with the South African Steven Odendaal (EAB Ten Kate Racing), losing only 0.096 seconds to Odendal.

The second WSSP race will start on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Estonian time.

At the moment, Soomer holds 8th position at the World Championships with 31 points.
