Hannes Soomer (MPM WILSport Racedays) finished the sixth round of World SSP in Jerez today on P11 after a very poor start.
„I made the worst start of my life today – the bike went too much on the rear wheel,“ said Soomer. He dropped from the 12th grid position to only P17, lost a little more than 4 seconds to the leaders at the end of Lap 1 and it was very hard for him to start gaining positions from back there.
Still, little by little Soomer rose in the standings. At the point when there were 15 laps to go, he was at P11. On the Lap 11 he was briefly passed by Ayrton Badovini, but when the Italian's tyre was worn out, Soomer regained his 11th position and earned 5 points in the World Championship standings.
„The bike was working today, but it was obvious that we had too little time for setup. Also, there were no good laps for me in the race, but then again, no bad ones either. I think that in conclusion, it could be said that considering the weekend we had today was a good day,“ said Soomer. He is a realist and admits that the position near the TOP 10 is what the bike allows him to achieve at the moment.
Soomer, who holds P15 in the World SSP standings, hopes to go to the seventh round in Misano in two weeks' time technically better prepared after today.
