Soomer: “Worst weekend of the season considering pace”

Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) finished Race 2 of the third round of the FIM World Supersport Championships in Misano, Italy today on P10.

"What was strong on the bike yesterday and what I could use to my advantage was gone by today. Pushing to the finish was great suffering," said Soomer, who was also able to start today's race from P5.

By the end of lap 1, Soomer fell to eighth, then to ninth, and in lap 6 he was eleventh. There were a lot of crashes in the race and on the sixth lap it was stopped with a red flag.

Finn, who suspected that the front tire was overheating (air temperature 31, track 47 degrees), lowered the tire pressure in the pits but said that this did not improve the situation much. He had to start from P11 after the red flag, and due to a poor start, he lost a couple of positions, but eventually gained them back and finished tenth.

"In terms of pace, it was the worst weekend of the season. We were very sensitive compared to others,” added Soomer.

The race was won to the surprise of the Swiss rider himself by Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha), who was second in the finish, but the leader Steven Odendaal, who was penalized for exceeding the track limits, dropped to fifth. Soomer was 11.577 seconds behind the winner.
