Hannes Soomer (MPM WILSport Racedays) repeated his best Superpole result of this season today in Misano at the seventh round of the World SPP Championship, getting the 4th place on the starting grid.
„In Assen they said that the Estonian was 4th in Superpole because of the unexpected snow, but today there is no reason to claim that any more,“ said Soomer. He has been waiting for a long time to have a racing weekend without any technical issues to be able to prove that a Superpole result among the top can be a standard for him.
„In FP3 this morning that was held on a wet track we tried out new suspension and it seemed to work,“ Soomer told. His time in FP3 was 10th. The Superpole was held on a dry circuit and the team changed the front tyre, with which the suspension did not work. When Soomer went for his second run, the settings were changed to the way they were yesterday, and after the second time in the pits the rear tyre was also changed. Soomer had a chance to get a fast lap in very late, because the traffic at the end of the Superpole was very dense and everybody was waiting for their chance. „10 seconds before the end, I had formed a gap with the front runners and then I got a chance to try. The first sector of the lap was not so good, but the others worked out really well.“ His qualifying time was 4th and Soomer starts from the second row tomorrow. He also points out that he ran several stable laps at times that he thinks will be realistic in tomorrow's race.
„We can go to sleep with a peace of mind today,“ said Soomer. „We will make no changes for tomorrow. The harder front and rear tyre work better and are safer and we chose the wider option for the rear rather than the narrower. I need to keep from falling in the race and I believe that my chances are quite good.“
