Hannes Soomer (Yamaha, Kallio Racing) finished today's Race 2 of Round 11 of the World Supersport Championship in Portimao, Portugal on P13 .
Figuratively speaking, for Hannes, the Portuguese Round can be summed up as a tour of the swamp, during which you first jumped in up to your neck but then climbed out of the mud and continued on a drier surface. "Today was a positive experience because at the end of the race I started to feel again that I can still ride a motorcycle. I got off to a pretty good start, but then I found myself on a series of wet spots that cost me both places and seconds. Fortunately, I could regain my place during the ensuing fights, and at least in terms of riding feeling, I can be satisfied with Round 11."
What about P13, is that satisfying? "No, definitely not, but we didn't have a chance to improve anything important. Today we made some changes and changed the clutch on the bike, but in the morning it was raining and the track started to dry out more or less only at the beginning of the race. I don't have a reference moment, but considering how I felt on the bike in the last laps today, we are probably moving in the right direction. We need to be more stable in terms of settings because what is good on one track can be terrible on another. Testing would also be helpful, but with such a tight calendar, it's not possible."
What's next? "We have bought tickets for the Argentine Round in mid-October, but Indonesia is currently unclear. However, if the track is ready there, we will also go to the last Round, but I will take both competitions primarily as a learning opportunity to lay a strong foundation for the new season.”
