Soomer rose to P13 from 22nd

For once marshals could keep red flags in their bags during the second day of the 8th Round of World Championship Races for motorbikes held in sunny Spain on Sunday. Even in class World SSP. Although in the beginning it seemed the leader of the scoreboard might not make it to the podium, but Dominique Aegerter (Yamaha) took what was rightfully his, earning his fifth golden double this season. Can Oncu (Kawasaki) got the second place and Dynavolt Triumph rider Stefano Manzi third after starting from position 17! He actually crossed the finish line second, but the jury decided to put him behind the Turkish rider since he had slipped across white track lines into the green no-ride area. Manzi’s teammate Hannes Soomer started today’s race from P22 and finished ten positions behind him, coming in 13th. “The bike handles very well,” said Hannes after the race, “and if tyre pressures fit the circumstances it becomes a bike that is fast and easy to ride.”

The only drawback of the bike seemed to be its speed in straights, and because of that the guy from Viimsi could not keep up with other riders in faster parts of the track. “We do not know right now whether it was the mechanics or electronics, but I lost ground to my competitors in long straights, and it is not easy to compensate for when competition is as tight as it is. Exiting turns and sector times are solid, but we must find out why the bike lacks power.” Will the team manage to do that? We’ll see in two weeks when the 9th round will be raced in Portugal (7.-9. Oct. 2022).
