„Most of today’s preparations went well,” said Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha), who took the 9th fastest time in today's FPs in Round 3 of the FIM Supersport World Championships in Misano.
"What we talked about after the Estoril Round, that it should be more neutral to ride the bike, has worked out," Soomer added. "Now we ride a different motorcycle quite differently than before - it's softer and rounder. Now, the bike wants to turn more itself, it doesn't have to be forced."
Today, the Supersport class riders also had access to a special, especially soft compound rear tire, which is generally considered better suitable for qualification and with which Soomer also made his fastest lap at the end of FP1. "I would use this tire in a race also," Soomer said.
As this round takes place in Italy, there is a whole line-up of local racers starting, some of whom are quite fast. Tomorrow, as many as 34 competitors will be qualifying. The competition is very intense, today 20 riders fit their time in 1 second. The fastest was the Spaniard Manuel Gonzales, Soomer was 0.429 seconds behind him.
The Misano circuit is also different in that there are many turns, from where it is very easy to ride onto the green area, ie beyond the track limits. Particular care must be taken with this in the Superpole, as this means that the lap is canceled, and it can also lead to a penalty in the races.
The qualification of the World SSP takes place on Saturday at 12:25 Estonian time, the first race at 17:15, the second race is on Sunday at 14:30. News, results and broadcasts at www.worldsbk.com
After two rounds, Soomer holds P5 in the World SSP with 41 points.
