Hannes Soomer (MPM WILSport Racedays) finished on P7, achieving his best result this World SSP Championship season today in Misano, Italy.
The race was held in hot and dry weather, on a very slippery track – there were six crashes during the race. Soomer's starting position was 4 and he started well, having a little elbow contact with Raffaele de Rosa, but not loosing much time because of that. By the end of the last lap Soomer had dropped to the 8th position. Several riders crashed ahead of him during the race and Soomer was riding on P6 for quite some time, keeping his place at the end of the leading pack. „When Vinales crashed in front of me, I lost much time, because I had to keep clear of Vinales's bike,“ said Soomer. Then the gap with the leading pack got wider and on top of that, the Yamaha rider Lorenzo Gabellini (ITA) passed him on the 9th lap. The Estonian was not able to regain his position from Gabellini. „Today he was faster,“ Soomer admitted.
„Of course I would have liked to have had a better result considering the excellent starting position, but still we are satisfied. The 7th position is the best I have had this season and the gap with the leaders was not that big,“ said Soomer. „The pace that is comparable to them is there at least for one lap, we have also found a good pace for qualifying. Now we need to find the speed for the race.“ Still, Soomer admits that the window for his Honda to face the competitors' bikes is very small.
