Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) was 9th in the second race of the second round of the Supersport World Championship in Jerez, Spain today.
The conditions were a bit milder in the second race: compared to yesterday's 42-degree heat, the air temperature was only 36 degrees. Besides that, today's race was shortened from 17 laps to 11 laps after a strange clash in warm-up between Axel Bassan (Soradis Yamaha Motoxracing) and Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). Soomer got a relatively good start and remained with the leaders the first rounds, but then made a mistake fighting Steven Odendaal and remained at the end of the top ten for the rest of the race. "I was much closer to the top today," said Soomer.
Soomer finished the race in P9 losing 8.678 seconds to the winner, Italian Andrea Locatell (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team).
"The weekend was difficult for the whole team and we learned a lot," Soomer summed up the World Championship round in Spain after a long break. "Fast exits is a place where I lose to the first guys and we need to work on that for the next round."
The possibility of corrections is already next weekend in Portimao, Portugal. "I like this track and I've been fast there," was Soomer hopeful.
