Hannes Soomer took P8 today in Estoril

Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing, Yamaha) took P8 at Round 2 of the FIM World Supersport Championship in Estoril, Portugal today.

In the morning, Soomer finished seventh in the Superpole and started the race from the third row. He made a good start and was holding P6. With a stable ride, Soomer finished in P8 today.

According to Soomer, the bike was much better compared to yesterday's Free Practices - in the first three sectors, his time is among the first three. But the last, fourth sector, the long turn before the finish, is a real concern at the moment, as Soomer's time is only 12th there.

"With the bike as it is now, this weak sector cannot be mended," said Soomer. "In addition, I made two small mistakes on the brakes during the race, and once DeRosa would have almost crashed in front of me - that's why the group of leaders slipped away." For the second race tomorrow, the team hopes to equalize this weak spot with competitors.

Today's race was won by Steven Odendaal, who has won all three races this year, in a close battle between the top five who finished within just over a second of each other. Soomer was 9.624 seconds behind the winner.

The second race of World SSP is on Sunday at 14:30 Estonian Time. News, results and broadcasts at www.worldsbk.com

Last season, Soomer won one of his three podium places at Estoril. This year, he holds P6 in the championship with 30 points.
