Hannes Soomer (MPM WILSport Racedays) was 13th in today's Free Practice sessions at the eleventh Round of World SSP Championship in Magny-Cours, France.
„So good to be back!“ said Soomer, who had to skip the previous Portugese Round of WSSP due to the hand and ankle injuries that he sustained in a crash at the official test in Portimao a few weeks ago.
It has rained today in Magny-Cours – FP one in the morning was held in semi-dry conditions for the WSSP class and the bikes were on track with slicks but no one took unnecessary risks. „All in all, the day was OK for me, but there was not a single cell in my body that would have wanted to have a crash in this rain here,“ said Soomer. In FP1 Soomer was 13th, in FP2 11th and his overall result was 13th. Corentin Perolari (GMT94 Yamaha) rode the fastest lap today.
In the rainy session in the afternoon the team tried out some changes on the Honda that proved to be moving in the right direction since the top speed improved (Soomer's top speed was 4th in FP2).
According to Soomer, the injury has healed well, the injured right arm does not trouble him, the left ankle does not hurt, but tends to get a little swollen and the medics have to deal with getting the swelling down a bit. In the week before the race Soomer went to the auto24ring circuit in Pärnu to get the feeling on the bike back with the 600cc Honda from the European Junior Cup and it was a joy for him to see that he could ride.
The weather for tomorrow and for Sunday should be much better than today. „You trust the dry track so much more, in the rain the feeling is a very insecure, especially after an injury,“ said Soomer, who is happy about the sunny forecast.
